Tracking Late December Winter Storm Expected to Impact the Northern Plains through the Northeast U.S.

A winter storm system will rapidly intensify over the Midwest on Sunday and track through the Great Lakes on Monday. Periods of heavy snow are anticipated across the Upper Great Lakes late Sunday and continuing into Monday. Severe Thunderstorms in Central Indiana

Severe thunderstorms developed in the late evening hours of Sunday August 19 and into the early morning hours of the 20th. Hail and damaging wind were reported, with hailstones up to the size of golfballs and wind gusts of 60 mph or higher.  Sporadic areas of tree and structural damage were observed by a survey team from the National Weather Service.  Several microbursts produced different areas of substantial damage.  The heaviest damage was determined to be consistent with peak wind gusts typically found in the 70-80 mph range.  In Brownsburg, there were large limbs and a few trees that partially damaged a few homes.  The storm resulted in reports of power loss in several areas.  Please click on the images to enlarge them.
