Record Flooding on the Chunky and Chickasawhay Rivers

...NEW RECORD FLOOD ON THE CHUNKY RIVER NEAR CHUNKY...
...NEW RECORD FLOOD ON THE CHICKASAWHAY RIVER AT ENTERPRISE...


HEAVY RAINFALL BETWEEN 5 TO 10 INCHES WITHIN THE CHUNKY RIVER 
BASIN... UPPER CHICKASAWHAY...AND THE OKATIBBEE CREEK BASINS ON 
SUNDAY SET THE STAGE FOR RECORD FLOODING ON THE CHUNKY RIVER AND THE 
CHICKASAWHAY RIVER.

THE CHUNKY RIVER NEAR CHUNKY MISSISSIPPI SURGED TO A NEW FLOOD OF
RECORD MONDAY MORNING.  THE OLD RECORD WAS 26.64 FEET WHICH WAS
ESTABLISHED ON MARCH 4TH 1979.  THE NEW PRELIMINARY FLOOD OF RECORD
IS *27.32 FEET WHICH OCCURRED ON THE MORNING OF APRIL 8TH. THE 
PERIOD OF RECORD FOR THE CHUNKY GAGE IS FROM 1938 TO THE PRESENT.

THE CHICKASAWHAY AT ENTERPRISE CRESTED JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT LAST 
NIGHT WITH A NEW FLOOD OF RECORD. THE OLD RECORD WAS ESTABLISHED ON 
FEBRUARY 25TH 1964 AT A STAGE OF 42.94 FEET.  THE NEW PRELIMINARY 
RECORD IS *43.13 FEET.  THE PERIOD OF RECORD FOR THE ENTERPRISE GAGE 
IS FROM 1938 TO THE PRESENT.

UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY.
