April 4, 2011 Jefferson Davis Straight Line Wind Damage

 

Event Summary

A relatively concentrated area of straight line winds estimated at 80 to 90 mph was surveyed over far southwest Jefferson Davis county, just west of Society Hill. A number of trees were downed in this area, and one fell on a mobile home, destroying it. Three individuals were in the home at the time the tree fell on it, but were uninjured. This damage occurred around 615 pm. Other sporadic wind damage was noted east and southeast of Bassfield in the form of downed large limbs and a few downed trees, and several trees were downed about 5 to 6 miles southeast of Seminary along Highway 49 in Covington county. All indications were that this damage was caused by straight line winds of 60 to 70 mph.
