Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Mid-Atlantic; Heat Persists Across the South

Scattered severe thunderstorms and excessive rainfall are possible into the night in the Mid Atlantic, and heavy rain will shift to Virginia and the Carolinas on Friday. Severe thunderstorms are also possible in the Central Plains into the Upper MS Valley and the Deep South tonight. A cold front brought much colder temperatures to the region Thanksgiving night, changing over the ample rainfall to light to moderate snowfall during the overnight hours.  Anywhere from a light dusting up to around one and a half inches of snow accumlated across the region, making it the area's first snowfall of the 2010-2011 winter season.

Also, the morning visible satellite image from Friday morning indicated where the band of heaviest snow fell, a fairly narrow stripe from the Land Between the Lakes in southwest Kentucky to around Wilmington, Ohio.
