Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains Across Portions of the Central and Eastern US; Heat Expands to Portions of the East

Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy downpours and flash flooding across much of the eastern and central U.S. Dangerous heat will continue in the Pacific Northwest and expand across portions of the East. The persistence of a frontal boundary in the Ohio Valley region didn't bring a ton of rain to the region, but an unusual streak of rainfall did occur.  The record number of consecutive days with at least a tenth of inch of rainfall all-time stands at 9 straight days for Louisville, Lexington, and Frankfort (8 for Bowling Green).  Louisville has come the closest to tying or breaking the record, but it looks like it will fall just one day short as dry weather is expected today.
