Heavy Rain in the Southern Appalachians; Fire Weather and Heat in the West; Monitoring Tropical Storm Erin

Heavy to excessive rainfall over the southern Appalachians may bring areas of flooding today. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this past Wednesday to celebrate the installation of Kentucky Mesonet's latest automated weather station. The site is located north of Lexington at the University of Kentucky's Spindletop Farm and is a joint venture between Western Kentucky University and UK. Data from the site includes temperature, relative humidity, wind, barometric pressure, solar radiation, soil temperature, precipitation, and a live webcam. Data is accessible from kymesonet.org or by using their app.
