Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall in the Southern Plains; Heat Continues in the West

Strong to severe thunderstorms may bring areas of excessive rainfall and flooding over parts of the southern Plains today through Friday. Hot to dangerously hot temperatures are forecast across portions of the Pacific Northwest and southern Great Basin today. Effective on October 31, 2023, the National Weather Service in Louisville in coordination with the Ohio River Forecast Center will begin daily forecast services for the Green River at Mammoth Cave at the request of Mammoth Cave National Park. Daily forecasts for the Green River at Mammoth Cave will be available on the National Weather Service webpage:

The following flood stages have been established at Mammoth Cave, KY:

Action: 20 ft
Minor: 32 ft
Moderate: 57 ft
Major: 62 ft

Forecasts for the Green River at Mammoth Cave will be issued daily, and Flood Warnings will be issued when water levels are expected to reach or exceed the Minor Flood Stage level of 32 feet.
