Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains Across Portions of the Central and Eastern US; Heat Expands to Portions of the East

Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy downpours and flash flooding across much of the eastern and central U.S. Dangerous heat will continue in the Pacific Northwest and expand across portions of the East. A rare occurrence will happen next year on this day, as a total solar eclipse crosses the United States, specifically for points south and west of Bowling Green a little after lunch time.  Eclipses are not uncommon, but getting into the path of totality is.  Hopefully the weather will be beneficial for viewing of the eclipse, but even should clouds obscure the best viewing, it still will get quite dark!  For more information on the eclipse, go to this link, https://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEsearch/SEsearchmap.php?Ecl=20170821
