Winter Storm to Impact the Northern Mid-Atlantic and Interior Northeast; heavy rain in the Southeast

A storm system will bring a variety of hazards to the Eastern US. Wintry precipitation is expected from the central Appalachians to the Northeast. Heavy snow is expected for interior New England and the northern Mid-Atlantic through the night, and icing will continue in the Appalachians this morning. The Western Kentucky University Meteorology Program hosted NWS Louisville and NWS Nashville for a Professional Development Series on Wednesday evening (Oct 23). Meteorologists John Gordon, Evan Webb, and Samantha Carr from NWS Louisville presented various topics to students, including applications of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in operational meteorology, and perspective on what a new meteorologist's first year in the National Weather Service is like. In addition, John Gordon gave an eye opening presentation about what it takes to get into the NWS. Students also were given advice on how best to construct their resumes.
