Severe Weather Threat Continues Across the Central U.S.; Critical Fire Weather Conditions in New Mexico

Severe thunderstorms will continue to be likely across the Central Plains into the Midwest on Monday. Thunderstorm development is also possible in portions of the Middle Mississippi Valley to Lower Michigan Monday afternoon. The Western Kentucky University Meteorology Program hosted NWS Louisville and NWS Nashville for a Professional Development Series on Wednesday evening (Oct 23). Meteorologists John Gordon, Evan Webb, and Samantha Carr from NWS Louisville presented various topics to students, including applications of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) in operational meteorology, and perspective on what a new meteorologist's first year in the National Weather Service is like. In addition, John Gordon gave an eye opening presentation about what it takes to get into the NWS. Students also were given advice on how best to construct their resumes.
