Dangerous Heat and Heavy Rainfall into the Weekend

Hot temperatures and high humidity are forecast to continue across the mid-Mississippi Valley into this weekend. Heat Advisories remain in effect. Heavy to excessive rainfall occurring at times through the weekend could bring areas of flooding to parts of the northern Rockies, upper Midwest, central Great Lakes, and southern New England. If it seems a little warm for May, then you are right. While we've only had a few record warm individual days, the persistence of the above-normal temperatures through the month means that on average, 2018 has been the warmest May on record, so far, for Louisville and Lexington, with Bowling Green ranking second. The forecast through the end of the month continues to call for warm conditions. The 7-day forecast is for above normal averages. The Climate Prediction Center calls for the persistent heat to continue into June. The image below shows their 8-14 day forecast calling for a better chance for those above normal temperatures.
