Winter Storm to Impact the Northern Mid-Atlantic and Interior Northeast; heavy rain in the Southeast

A storm system will bring a variety of hazards to the Eastern US. Wintry precipitation is expected from the central Appalachians to the Northeast. Heavy snow is expected for interior New England and the northern Mid-Atlantic through the night, and icing will continue in the Appalachians this morning. While we've only had a few record warm individual days, the persistence of the above-normal temperatures through the month means that on average, 2018 has been the warmest May on record, so far, for Louisville and Lexington, with Bowling Green ranking second. The forecast through the end of the month continues to call for warm conditions. The 7-day forecast is for above normal averages. The Climate Prediction Center calls for the persistent heat to continue into June. The image below shows their 8-14 day forecast calling for a better chance for those above normal temperatures.
