Heavy Snow in the Central/Southern Rockies; Below Average Temperatures in the Central and Eastern US

Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in the central/southern Rockies and adjacent High Plains today. Lake-enhanced snowfall is expected downwind of the Great Lakes today. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible this evening into tonight across the western Gulf Coast states. We've seen some wild swings in weather this year, but it may be surprising to see that most of us our sitting pretty near normal for our annual precipitation so far this year. It was a wet start to the year, however a dry early to mid Summer stretch helped offset the abundant early year rainfall.
