Heat Persists in the South Central U.S. and Southwest; Heavy rains in the Desert Southwest and Central Plains

Sweltering heat remains across the South-Central Plains, Lower/Middle Mississippi Valley, and the Southwest this week with limited nighttime relief. Thunderstorms will bring heavy rainfall leading to localized flash flooding in portions of the Desert Southwest and central Plains. An evening of light to moderate rain was followed up by a surge of cold air Tuesday morning. With winds becoming light and variable after midnight, frost was able to form on many elevated surfaces. This frost had something different though, many unusual designs and patterns especially on cars, likely because of the residual moisture from the evening rains. It was noticed on the car top of an employee here at NWS Louisville, and then many pictures coming in via Social Media. Below are some of those pictures.

Unusual Car Top Frost Tuesday Morning
