Severe Thunderstorms from the Midwest to Mid-Atlantic Tonight; The Heat Continues in the Southern and Eastern U.S.

Strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing large to very large hail, damaging wind gusts and a few strong tornadoes are likely from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic tonight. Moderate Risk (level 4 of 5) of severe thunderstorms is outlooked for the Midwest. An unseasonably cold air mass has settled over the region. After this morning's temps below freezing in many spots, there is another chance for a hard freeze tonight. 

 

Forecast Low Temperatures

  • Tonight lows 26 to 32 degrees along and east of I-65 - Freeze Warning in effect along and east of a line from Paoli, Indiana to Glasgow, Kentucky.
  • Coldest readings expected across southeast Indiana and the Bluegrass area of central Kentucky.

Impacts

  • Given the early start to the growing season, those with agricultural interests should closely monitor the forecasts and prepare for the possibility of sub freezing temperatures.
  • Even urban, metro regions such as Louisville could see lows below 32 degrees.
