Heavy Rainfall and Flooding Threats in the Midwest and Ohio Valley; Heat Continues in the Plains and Southeast

An active pattern will continue to bring heavy to excessive rainfall and flash flooding threats to the Midwest and Ohio Valley over the next couple of days. Dangerous heat continues across the central/southern Plains and Southeast U.S. into next week. First, a lesson on why you should never drive into flood waters:

Matt Pedigo, Editor of the Citizen-Times, provided this information concerning the above rescue: "This ladder truck rescue was indeed very dramatic. At no time was this man's survival assured, as he was also suffering from a broken arm and hypothermia. The water rose precipitously fast. The truck's ladder, which was not designed to be used in this horizontal position, had a 500 pound weight limit. Therefore, the life of the firefighter, Jeff Young of the Scottsville Fire Department, was never assured either. "
