Significant Coastal Impacts to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast; Tropical Storm Nolo to Impact Hawaii

A strong coastal storm will bring moderate to major coastal flooding, strong winds, heavy rainfall and high surf to the Mid-Atlantic and New England. Tropical Storm Nolo is expected to strengthen into a hurricane today as it moves north toward the Big Island of Hawaii. First, a lesson on why you should never drive into flood waters:

Matt Pedigo, Editor of the Citizen-Times, provided this information concerning the above rescue: "This ladder truck rescue was indeed very dramatic. At no time was this man's survival assured, as he was also suffering from a broken arm and hypothermia. The water rose precipitously fast. The truck's ladder, which was not designed to be used in this horizontal position, had a 500 pound weight limit. Therefore, the life of the firefighter, Jeff Young of the Scottsville Fire Department, was never assured either. "
