Heavy Rainfall and Severe Thunderstorm Threats for the Plains and Southeast

A frontal boundary extending from the western High Plains to the Southeast will focus additional showers and thunderstorms this weekend. Some of these storms may become severe, alongside frequent lightning, and isolated instances of flash flooding. NWS Louisville's forecast system (Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System) is being upgraded today and is expected to last several hours. During this time, our neighboring office, NWS Paducah, will assume responsbility of some services and products. During this backup, observations, radar and routine NOAA weather radio products may be missing or delayed. We expect that this upgrade will be complete by this afternoon.
