Thunderstorms and Heavy Rains Across Portions of the Central and Eastern US; Heat Expands to Portions of the East

Widespread showers and thunderstorms, some severe, may produce heavy downpours and flash flooding across much of the eastern and central U.S. Dangerous heat will continue in the Pacific Northwest and expand across portions of the East. You might notice hazy skies across the region as this morning's visible satellite image captured a thin veil of white (outlined in orange) which is smoke from wildfires in Canada. The upper level weather pattern is favorable for any smoke from the Saskatchewan and Ontario provinces to move over the lower Great Lakes and Ohio Valley.
