Additional Heavy Rain and Flooding Concerns in Central Texas; Tropical Storm Chantal to Impact the Coastal Carolinas

Heavy rainfall and flooding concerns remain for today across Central Texas and the Hill Country, with scattered thunderstorms expected this afternoon and evening. Tropical Storm Chantal has formed and will bring heavy rainfall and flooding concerns to portions of the coastal Carolinas. The annual exceedance probability (AEP) provides a way of comparing rainfall to the climate of a particular area. For example, a certain amount of rain may be less rare in Louisiana than Missouri. Estimating the annual chance of observed or forecast rainfall amounts may provide a way of determining the significance of that rainfall for a particular location.
