Dangerous Heat over the South-Central and Southwest U.S. Through Next Week

Dangerous heat persists across the Desert Southwest through this weekend and across the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley through at least the middle of next week. Overview

A broken line of supercell thunderstorms developed near the Mississippi River and rapidly moved east ahead of a strong cold front during the afternoon of April 3, 2018. One of the supercells produced a strong EF-2 tornado southeast of Vandalia, IL in Fayette County.  The tornado was surveyed by NWS personnel on April 4, 2018. The summary of the event and the damage survey are presented.
