* Nearly all of the deaths and damage occurred outside of the NWS STL CWA in Mattoon, IL.

** This was near the beginning of the Great Tri State Tornado. While the maximum damage in the NWS STL CWA was only rated as F2, F5 damage and nearly all of the deaths occurred outside the CWA over southern Illinois.
