Heat Wave Expands to the East Coast; Flash Flooding Likely in the Central Plains into the Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Northeast

Dangerous, prolonged heat is ongoing in the Mid-South to Mid-Mississippi Valley and heat expands into the Northeast for a brief period today. Widely scattered instances of flash flooding due to heavy rains are forecast from northeast Kansas to much of Indiana. Overview

Heavy rain impacted portions of South Florida during the early morning hours on Monday, December 23rd. The greatest rain amounts fell across northeast Miami-Dade County and southeast Broward County. Significant and impactful flooding affected the Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Hallandale Beach, and Dania Beach areas with localized rain totals exceeding 12 inches. Numerous roads were impassable and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) International Airport ceased operations for several hours due to flooding on the premises.  Flooding continued impacting several roads across the area into Monday afternoon and evening.
