Snow Squalls from the Upper Midwest to Great Lakes; High Winds in the Northern and Central Plains

An Arctic front will bring widespread snow squalls through Friday from the Upper Midwest to the Ohio Valley. Heavy snow rates and strong winds will lead to near-zero visibility and dangerous travel conditions. Overview

A long duration snow fell across much of Wisconsin, beginning Saturday afternoon, December 10th and ending Sunday evening, December 11, 2016.  The heaviest snow fell from the La Crosse area down into southeast Wisconsin.  The snow was light and powdery with the highest totals running in the 6 to 10 inch range. See the snow graphics below.  

Low pressure tracked out of the Central Plains and passed slowly by to our south.  See the map to the right.  This is an ideal track for snow across southern Wisconsin.  Media reported major flight delays and cancellations due to the snow in the Chicago area.
