The Summer Solstice will occur on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at 11:38 AM CDT. This is the start of astronomical summer in the Northern Hemisphere. This is the point when the sun's direct rays are at their furthest point northward, on the Tropic of Cancer.

The longest daylight hours of the year occur around the summer solstice. The days will begin to slowly get shorter over the next couple of months, as the direct rays of the sun move slowly southward.
