Coastal Threats for the East and Gulf; Record Warmth for the Central U.S.

Persistent onshore flow across the Southeast and portions of the mid-Atlantic will keep the risk of rip currents through the weekend. Rainfall could be locally heavy across Florida, especially along the eastern shoreline. Meanwhile, record warmth for portions of the Plains and Midwest with elevated fire concerns. Knoxville Snow Depth Record

  • Knoxville confirmed the following this past week:
    • 4 consecutive days with 6" or more of snow on the ground (January 15-18)
    • 7 consecutive days of 4" or more of snow on the ground (January 15-21)
  • Snow depth data for Knoxville goes back to January of 1910
  • For 6" depth, this is the 2nd longest stretch, behind only February 2-6, 1996
  • For 4" depth, this is the longest stretch on record
  • Our office also had 7 consecutive days with 4" or more of snow on the ground, but our data only goes back to the 1995-1996 winter
