Overview

A pre-frontal trough ahead of a cold front triggered scattered severe thunderstorms with damaging winds during the afternoon across portions of northeast New Jersey, NYC metro, and western Long Island. A cluster of severe thunderstorms moving across central New jersey approached the NYC metro in the evening before dissipating as it moved across Long Island due to less instability and loss of daytime heating. The Newark International Airport recorded a 61 mph wind gust at 4:41 PM EDT. A person was struck by lightning in Midtown Manhattan at 3:39 PM EDT.
