Overview

A fast moving line severe thunderstorms associated with a strong cold front moved into the area during the afternoon hours. The northern portion of the line impacted the Lower Hudson Valley and Southern Connecticut producing damaging winds. These storms weakened as they approached the Long Island Sound, but the lingering outflow boundary moved north to south across Long Island, producing gusty winds. The southern portion of the line moved across Union County New Jersey and Richmond County New York (Staten Island) producing wind damage and a report of quarter-sized hail. Two occupants in a vehicle in Plainfield, NJ were killed when a large tree fell on the car.
