Overview

Scattered thunderstorms developed during the afternoon of Thursday, June 11, 2026 across eastern NY along a surface trough of low pressure. These storms moved southeast into CT and then central/eastern Long Island around the periphery of an upper level ridge.
These storms produced hail around quarter-sized in Sherman, CT as well as brought down trees and wires in portions of southern CT.
The storms briefly weakened in S CT before intensifying crossing over the Long Island Sound. The storm raced southeastward over central/eastern Long Island producing widespread wind damage across Rocky Point, Middle Island, Shoreham, Wading River, Ridge, Shirley, and Mastic.
A 66 mph wind gust was recorded at 5:55pm at a mesonet station in Shoreham, NY.
Another round of storms moved into the area from eastern PA and southern NY NE NJ and the NYC metro in the evening.
Most of these storms remained below severe limits, but a few isolated cells produced isolated wind damage and a 69 mph wind gust at La Guardia Airport at 11:39pm.
The second round of storms weakened shortly after midnight as they moved over western Long Island.
