Overview

A downburst with straight-line winds of 85-105 mph occurred across Milford, Orange, West Haven, New Haven, and East Haven, CT.
These winds resulted in intermittent severe tree and powerline damage, and damage to homes and automobiles.
A wall of a warehouse in Milford, CT collapsed with uplifted roof debris causing damage to neighboring powerlines and adjacent Metro-North tracks.
A 103 mph wind gust was measured at the Lighthouse Point weather flow station at Lighthouse Point Park at 1:30am. These winds caused severe damage to the carousel building as well as downing over 100 trees.
The New Haven Airport only recorded a 37 mph wind gust at 1:28 mph, about a mile or so northeast of Lighthouse Point.
A 97 mph wind gust was measured at mesonet in Morgan Point at 1:26am and a 86 mph wind gust was measured at the Silver Sands Beach mesonet in East Haven, CT at 1:29am.
Other clusters of showers and thunderstorms occurred across the Lower Hudson Valley, Southern Connecticut, and eastern Long Island. No other damage was reported, but minor urban and poor drainage flooding was common, especially across the Forks of Long Island during the early morning hours.
A few mesonets on the northeastern shore of Long Island measure wind gusts 45-50 mph.
