Zone and County Shapefile Changes
Effective March 8, 2023 by 4 pm EST, minor changes will be made to public forecast zones in and around New York City. These changes will result in a slight expansion of each affected zone to incorporate adjacent waterways, resulting in more streamlined warning and forecast operations for WFO New York, NY. Corresponding changes will also be made for each affected county. While this change will have no noticeable impact on public forecast users, users of NWS shapefiles will notice minor modifications.
Impacted Zones:
Southern Westchester (NYZ071) - This zone will expand slightly westward to incorporate the eastern half of the Hudson River.
New York (NYZ072) - This zone will expand slightly westward to incorporate the eastern half of the Hudson River.
Bronx (NYZ073) - This zone will expand slightly westward to incorporate the eastern half of the Hudson River and slightly southeastward to incorporate the northern half of the East River.
Richmond (NYZ074) - This zone will expand slightly northward to incorporate the southern half of the Kill Van Kull approaching Newark Bay.
Northern Queens (NYZ176) - This zone will expand slightly northward to incorporate the southern half of the East River.
Hudson (NJZ006) - This zone will expand slightly southward to incorporate the northern half of the Kill Van Kull, slightly westward to incorporate the eastern half of Newark Bay, and slightly eastward to incorporate the western half of the Hudson River.
Eastern Bergen (NJZ104) - This zone will expand slightly eastward to incorporate the western half of the Hudson River.
Eastern Essex (NJZ106) - This zone will expand slightly eastward to incorporate the western half of Newark Bay.
Eastern Union (NJZ108) - This zone will expand slightly eastward to incorporate the western half of Newark Bay.
Identical changes will be made to each impacted county.
