Thunderstorm chances will increase Wednesday across south-central Arizona. Storms will be most prevalent across higher terrain areas with gusty winds and blowing dust moving into the Phoenix area by evening. Scattered thunderstorms may develop behind the outflow boundary in the Phoenix metro, though rainfall coverage may be limited. Storms could also produce localized heavy rainfall, but more areas will likely experience no rainfall vs. heavy rainfall
Temperatures will retreat to near or below normal levels through the weekend yielding only a moderate HeatRisk for the holiday. By early next week, prospects for 110 degree temperatures increases.
Due to the hot temperatures this week, ensure you are following proper heat safety tips. Stay hydrated, wear cool/light clothing, wear sunscreen, and if possible, stay in the shade or inside.
