An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for primarily lower desert areas of South-Central AZ, including Phoenix, through Saturday. High and low temperatures will push the HeatRisk category up to high-end Moderate (Level 2 of 4) with areas of Major (Level 3 of 4). Phoenix will flirt with the record on Saturday, August 2nd with a forecast high of 114°F and a current record of 113°F (1918, 2009, 2011).
Well above normal temperatures are expected across the region next week with record highs likely to be tied/broken. High temperatures are forecast to climb into the 110-117 degree range, resulting in widespread Major to Extreme HeatRisk by the middle part of next week. As a result, an Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for all of south-central Arizona starting Tuesday before expanding to include southwest Arizona and southeast California Wednesday through Friday.
Record-breaking temperatures are in the forecast over the next 7 days. Temperatures will be well above normal resulting in widespread Moderate HeatRisk each day and areas of Major HeatRisk Saturday. Widespread Major HeatRisk and areas of Extreme HeatRisk is expected to develop across the region by the middle part of next week as forecast highs for the lower deserts climbs into the 110-117 degree range.
Slightly above normal temperatures through the week will result in widespread Moderate HeatRisk. Make sure to take proper precautions to protect yourself from the heat.
July temperatures ranged from above normal in Phoenix to slightly below normal in Yuma and El Centro. All 3 location received well below average rainfall with Yuma and El Centro recording no rainfall.
