Overview
During the early to mid afternoon hours of July 30th, 2025, two high altitude tornadoes would develop, one in Teller Counter, and another in Custer County. The pattern was overall amorphous, with broad southwesterly flow in the upper levels, and weak ridging in the mid levels. Overall the pattern was not overly conducive to tornadoes, but weather did it anyways. Perhaps there was some misoscale/terrain influences that helped these tornadoes develop.

The Enhanced Fujita (EF) Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories:
| EF0 Weak 65-85 mph |
EF1 Moderate 86-110 mph |
EF2 Significant 111-135 mph |
EF3 Severe 136-165 mph |
EF4 Extreme 166-200 mph |
EF5 Catastrophic 200+ mph |

The overall mesoscale environment was also not overly supportive of tornadoes this day. Instability was on the lower end, with MLCAPE between 500-1000 J/kg, and effective shear was weak, with less than 30 knots being resolved over the area. The SCP and STP were also low across the area. Despite this, the weather still produced two tornadoes, possibly from misoscale and terrain influences in their respective locations.
