Strong to Severe Thunderstorms in the East; Heat in the Central and Western U.S.

Strong to potentially severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts are forecast Thursday from parts of New England into the Mid Atlantic and Carolinas. Significant heat will expand across the West and Central Plains through Friday, potentially breaking daily high temperature records. 1969 

Thunderstorms during the morning spawned tornadoes that ripped through sections of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. Hardest hit were a factory in Jamestown and the towns of Gerry, Conewango, and Bemus Point. No injuries were reported, but several hundred thousand dollars in damages occurred. 

1996

Strong thunderstorms crossed the Genesee Valley during the early afternoon hours dropping rainfall amounts of one to two inches. The rain fell on already saturated ground producing flash flooding in Batavia and Caledonia. Roads were closed because of the flood waters. Several basements were damaged by flooding.
