Several severe thunderstorms impacted eastern Nebraska and far western Iowa on May 19. A few of these storms were particularly strong, producing significant hail up to the size of baseballs, straight line winds up to 66 mph, and two brief tornadoes. .Dodge County Tornado... Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.73 miles Path Width /maximum/: 70 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 1 Start Date: May 19, 2025 Start Time: 5:29 CDT Start Location: 2 ESE Rogers, NE Start Lat/Lon: 41.46, -96.87 End Date: May 19, 2025 End Time: 5:31 CDT End Location: 3 W North Bend, NE End Lat/Lon: 41.46, -96.84 A tornado developed on the Platte River just west of County Road 3 at 5:29 PM. The tornado moved east on the river before coming on the north shore where it damaged campers and mobile homes, as well as cottonwood and maple trees. This included one very large cottonwood tree which was uprooted and fell on to a home. The life cycle of the tornado was evaluated using time stamped video from storm chasers. The final part of the track was intermittent, and the entire tornado lasted for approximately 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Damage to trees and homes indicated a narrow swath of peak estimated wind speed of 90 to 100 mph. .Pawnee/Richardson County Tornado... Rating: EF-Unknown Estimated Peak Wind: Unknown mph Path Length /statute/: 2.16 miles, intermittent Path Width /maximum/: 50 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: May 19, 2025 Start Time: 5:50 PM CDT Start Location: 1 NE Du Bois, NE Start Lat/Lon: 40.05, -96.04 End Date: May 19, 2025 End Time: 5:53 PM CDT End Location: 3 ENE Du Bois, NE End Lat/Lon: 40.05, -95.998 Storm chaser videos indicate that an intermittent weak tornado tracked just south of Highway 8, beginning in an open field east of Highway 50, and continuing with an intermittent ground-level circulation and dust until ending prior to reaching 631 road. The ground level dust circulation did appear to be connected to a cloud base circulation, although without a fully visible condensation funnel.
