Heavy Rainfall to Bring Flooding Threat to California; Heavy Snow in the Sierra

A strong atmospheric river will bring heavy rainfall to California through the holiday week. The heaviest rainfall is expected on Wednesday in the Los Angeles Basin. Flash and urban flooding is possible. A prolonged heavy snowfall is expected in the Sierra Nevada from the atmospheric river, raising concerns for major snow‐load impacts. High winds can be dangerous! If possible, stay inside. When driving, slow down, keep both hands on the wheel, and keep away from high-profile vehicles. Be aware of loose outdoor items and stay clear of trees. Visit weather.gov/wind for more information.
Wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph is expected across southwest Washington and northwest Oregon on Wednesday, December 24. This graphic shows the timing of the strongest winds. The winds will start to the south in Lane County around 7 am, reach the Portland/Vancouver Metro area around 10 am, and southwest Washington around noon. The strong winds will persist 1 to 3 hours for each location.
