Main Forecast Take Away:

  • Rain changes to snow late tonight, then back to rain by mid to late morning Monday
  • 1 to as many as 6 inches of snow accumulation by mid to late morning Monday
  • Slippery/slushy roadways may be encountered during the morning commute

Accumulating snow in May is rare, and may take people off guard. While precipitation will likely begin as rain, with up to an inch plus for some, a change-over is expected late tonight. Therefore, a Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 10 pm Sunday through noon Monday for a number of counties. Visibility may be reduced to around a mile or less at times, and roadways are expected to become slippery as well during the morning commute. While this is a dynamic forecast, confidence is high that snow will fall, with moderate confidence in the highest potential accumulations. Precipitation should switch back over to rain as temperatures warm Monday mid-morning, helping to melt snowfall. All precipitation tapers off during Monday afternoon. Additionally, temperatures will warm into the 40's Monday afternoon leading to a much less hazardous evening commute.
