Snow Depth - Current

Click a reading on the map to view a graph for that station. Snow depths shown are measured by remote automated gages(NRCS - Snotel). Snowfall: Maximum amount of new snow that has fallen since the previous observation, usually 24 hours. Snowfall is generally only available at manual observations stations. These data are provisional and have not be verified for accuracy. Errors in the data can occur for a variety of reasons such as vegetation, blowing snow and sensor failure.
The Snow Coverage overlay is created daily by the National Ice Center from a wide variety of satellite imagery (AVHRR, GOES, SSMI, etc.) as well as derived mapped products (USAF Snow/Ice Analysis, AMSU, AMSR-E, NCEP models, etc.) and surface observations.
