Summer Weather Info for Northern OH and Northwest PA  (National Weather Service, Cleveland, OH)

Summer 2014 begins at 651 AM EDT, Sat, June 21 (Summer Solstice):

- High temperatures in early June are normally in the lower to mid 70s.

- By early/mid July, high temperatures average in the lower/mid 80s (the peak for the summer).

- By early September, high temperatures range from 77 to 80.

- It is common for high temperatures to reach into the 90s (see summer temperature chart below) but rarely reach 100.

-The longest day (June 21) has about 15 hours of sunshine at Mount Vernon, OH (the southern part of our forecast area) and about 15 hours, 15 minutes of sunshine in Erie, PA in the northern part of our forecast area.

- An El Nino is likely developing in the Pacific. Summers in northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania are rarely hot and dry during the onset of an El Nino. The summer is more likely to bring normal or below normal temperatures with normal or above normal rainfall.
