Above Normal Temperatures, Strong Thunderstorms, Tropical Development Being Monitored

Well above normal temperatures are forecast to shift from the northern Plains through the Northeast U.S. over the long holiday weekend. A few strong to severe thunderstorm will be possible as well along with a potential for excessive rainfall. A tropical or subtropical depression could form off the Southeast U.S. coast over the weekend while drifting northward to northeastward. Read More >

  • 2013 - Germann Road Fire. Gordon, Wisconsin. May 14th
    7,442 acres and destroyed 47 structures (17 of them residences) in the Towns of Gordon and Highland in Douglas County. Started by logging equipment.  More Information
  • 2011 - Pagami Creek. BWCA Minnesota. September 10th
    92,682 acres in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. September. Started by lightning. 
  • 2006 - Cavity Lake. BWCA Minnesota
    31,830 acres in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of far northeast Minnesota. Started by lightning. 
  • 1977 - Five Mile Tower Fire. Minong, Wisconsin
    13,375 acres. Destroyed 63 buildings. Started by a camp fire on April 30th. 
  • 1918 -  Cloquet/Duluth Fire. October 12th 
    453 people were killed and 52,000 injured or displaced.
  •  1894 - Hinckley/Sandstone Fire.  September 1st.
    Burned over 250,000 acres and killed nearly 500 people.
