A cold weather system is expected to make its way into northern California bringing heavy snow Monday night and Tuesday. This will impact travel and may cause power outages. Confidence is increasing but continue to monitor the forecast at https://www.weather.gov/eka/mountainPassForecast if you intend to travel over the weekend.
A major winter storm is expected to move into Northern California starting Monday night and continuing through Tuesday. This system will bring significant and potentially major weather impacts to our region that you should account for in your travel planning. Heavy snow is anticipated for all major mountain passes as snow levels drop rapidly throughout the event. Travelers should also be alert for accumulating small hail at lower elevations, which can create slippery "ice rink" conditions on the roads in a matter of seconds. Widespread rain will increase the risk of rockslides in steep terrain, and colder temperatures are expected to persist through at least Wednesday. Please continue to monitor the latest forecast updates and stay safe on the roads.
A very cold system will approach the area on Monday bringing lowering snow levels and an enhancement in the shower activity. Accumulating snow will become a concern on highway passes Monday night and impact all of the higher passes on 3, 36, 199, and 299 as well as possibly on highway 101 by Tuesday morning.
A cold weather system will bring small hail to the coastal areas of Northwest California Monday night and Tuesday. Use extreme caution if hail falls while driving. Visit weather.gov/eka to view radar and updated forecasts.
