2013 SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA
COOPERATIVE OBSERVER PRECIPITATION
(for 24 counties in the NWS Hastings coverage area)

According to 30-year data from NCDC 1981-2010, "normal" annual precipitation across this 24-county area generally ranges from 23-30 inches, with the lowest part of this range including far western locations such as Gothenburg and Cambridge, and the highest part of this range including far eastern locations near Highway 81 such as York and Hebron. 

2013 Precipitation Summary: Compared to the notable drought that plagued the region during 2012, precipitation trends across most of South Central Nebraska during 2013 were less extreme, with most places ending up somewhere between 75-125% of the 30-year normal. That being said, there was a rather pronounced difference in annual precipitation between roughly the southwestern one-third of the area (drier) and north central/northeast portions of the area (wetter). As evidence of this, the driest cooperative observer site during 2013 was Beaver City in Furnas County with 16.52 inches (7.79" below normal), while the wettest site was Genoa 2W in Nance County with 33.35 inches (4.53" above normal). In between these extremes, central locations such as the Tri-Cities were very close to average/normal during the year, including Grand Island airport with 26.92 inches (0.26" above normal).
