Areas of Excessive Rainfall, Severe Thunderstorms, and Wildfire Smoke Today

Scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms are expected to expand further east each day from the southern High Plains to the Tennessee and Lower Ohio Valleys today through Saturday. Heavy to excessive rainfall may bring flooding to parts of the Four Corners/Desert Southwest, coastal Carolinas, and Midwest regions today. Length of Service Awards were recently presented to two different Cooperative Observers in Gunnison County. The Gunnison County Electric Association received a 25 year award while the Curecanti National Recreation Area received a 50 year award. These observers take daily weather readings for the National Weather Service's Cooperative Observer Program (COOP). These readings include various weather observations such as daily high and low temperatures, precipitation, snowfall, and snow depth. The daily weather observations take by these organizations help to define the climate of the U.S.!
