Snowy, Very Cold and Windy from the Northern Plains to Great Lakes; Critical Fire Weather in South Texas

Moderate to heavy lake effect snow is expected downwind of the Great Lakes, with the Chicago metro potentially receiving 6 to 12 inches of snowfall. A frigid airmass will bring very cold temperatures to the Central U.S. and Mississippi Valley today, migrating into the Eastern U.S. on Monday. Red Flag Warning This Afternoon and Evening in Northwest Colorado and Northeast Utah

A trough will pass through the Northern Rockies this afternoon and tonight causing northwest winds to increase today over northwest Colorado and northeast Utah. These winds will combine with already hot and dry conditions, as well as very dry fuels, to produce critical fire weather over much of northern Colorado and Utah. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from Noon until 8 PM MDT today.
