Well above normal temperatures are forecast to shift from the northern Plains through the Northeast U.S. over the long holiday weekend. A few strong to severe thunderstorm will be possible as well along with a potential for excessive rainfall. Red Flag Warning This Afternoon and Evening in Northwest Colorado and Northeast Utah
A trough will pass through the Northern Rockies this afternoon and tonight causing northwest winds to increase today over northwest Colorado and northeast Utah. These winds will combine with already hot and dry conditions, as well as very dry fuels, to produce critical fire weather over much of northern Colorado and Utah. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from Noon until 8 PM MDT today.
