2016 Summary:

There were several weather and climate impacts across the TN Valley in 2016. The year began somewhat wetter than normal, however that quickly changed. We observed below normal winter weather, such as snow, however there were a couple of minor winter weather events in January and February. The spring severe weather season was not as strong as it has been in years past, however there were several outbreaks that impacted surrounding areas, including the March 31st event that produced the Priceville EF-2 tornado. Summer was fairly warm and our precipitation deficit grew during the beginning of the summer, starting our overall degradation into drought. While August saw several waves of much needed rainfall, the fall was very dry, and the drought conditions continued to worsen. Things begin to improve a bit during November, however we also saw an increase in convective weather, which included the November 29-30 tornado outbreak. The year ended with well below normal precipitation and above normal temperatures.
