Areas of Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall through This Weekend

A multi-day thunderstorm and heavy rain event will impact the south-central U.S. this Memorial Day weekend. Severe thunderstorms may produce large hail, severe gusts, and a possible tornado or two across portions of the central and southern Plains through Monday. Strong to severe storms are possible today this morning into the afternoon. Gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall are the main threats with storms today.
Clusters of strong to severe storms will move across the Tennessee Valley on Sunday. Best chances for severe weather will be during the afternoon hours. Main concern is damaging winds, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall.
Storm surveys thus far have resulted in 13 tornadoes in north Alabama on 5/20/2025. The waterspout on Pickwick lake that moved onshore in Lauderdale County will be evaluated further with drone imagery next week. These results are subject to changes and are preliminary.

Low chances for strong to severe storms will exist for the remainder of the day today through Monday. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are forecast through Monday night, and damaging winds and large hail will be the primary severe hazards. Stay tuned for updates!
