April 2022 Climate Summary and Highlights

 

Overall, it was warmer and much drier than normal in April.

WICHITA

The monthly average temperature was 57.7 degrees, which was 1.2 degrees warmer than normal. It was the warmest April since 2019. 
The warmest temperature was 88 degrees on the 29th, and the coldest was 26 on the 9th. Precipitation-wise, only 0.78 inches was measured at Eisenhower Airport, which was 2.32 inches below normal. It was the 13th driest April since records began in 1889, and the driest since 2014. 

SALINA

The monthly average temperature was 55.5 degrees, which was 0.9 degrees warmer than normal. It was the warmest April since 2019. 
The warmest temperature was 92 degrees on the 29th, and the coldest was 23 on the 9th. Precipitation-wise, only 0.64 inches was measured at the airport, which was 2.08 inches below normal. It was the 6th driest April since records began in 1900, and the driest since 1982.

CHANUTE

The monthly average temperature was 58.1 degrees, which was 0.4 degrees warmer than normal. It was the warmest April since 2019. 
The warmest temperature was 85 degrees on the 10th and 12th, and the coldest was 28 on the 9th. Precipitation-wise, only 1.84 inches was measured at the airport, which was 2.41 inches below normal. It was the 19th driest April since records began in 1898, and the driest since 2018.

RUSSELL

The monthly average temperature was 55.0 degrees, which was 1.6 degrees warmer than normal. It was the warmest April since 2019. 
The warmest temperature was 94 degrees on the 12th, and the coldest was 23 on the 14th. Precipitation-wise, only 0.36 inches was measured at the airport, which was 1.81 inches below normal. It was the 2nd driest April since records began in 1950. The driest was 1989.
