February 2021 Climate Summary and Highlights

February averaged cold and dry for most across the region. Below are some highlights from our three primary climate sites: Wichita, Salina, and Chanute.

Wichita

  • Monthly average temperature 26.0 degrees, 11.2 degrees below normal.
  • 6th coldest February since official records began in 1889, coldest since 1979.
  • Warmest temperature 69 degrees on the 23rd.
  • Coldest temperature 17 below on the 16th. This tied for the city's 4th coldest temperature ever recorded.
  • Monthly precipitation 0.30 inches, 0.88 inches below normal.
  • 27th driest February on record, driest since 2018.
  • Monthly snowfall 5.7 inches, 2.5 inches above normal.
  • 34th snowiest February on record, snowiest since 2015.

Salina

  • Monthly average temperature 25.4 degrees, 10.1 degrees below normal.
  • Tied for 8th coldest February since official records began in 1900, coldest since 1989.
  • Warmest temperature 72 degrees on the 23rd.
  • Coldest temperature 14 below on the 16th. This was the city's coldest temperature since 2011.
  • Monthly precipitation 0.18 inches, 0.99 inches below normal.
  • 19th driest February on record, driest since 2018.

Chanute

  • Monthly average temperature 26.4 degrees, 11.0 degrees below normal.
  • Tied for 4th coldest February since official records began in 1898, coldest since 1989.
  • Warmest temperature 70 degrees on the 23rd.
  • Coldest temperature 22 below on the 16th. This was the city's 2nd coldest temperature on record. The coldest is 23 below in 1949.
  • Monthly precipitation 0.37 inches, 1.53 inches below normal.
  • 18th driest February on record, driest since 2017.
