September 2021 Climate Summary and Highlights

Overall, it was a relatively warm September across the region, with a mix of above and below normal rainfall. Below are some
September climate highlights for our 3 primary climate sites: Wichita, Salina, and Chanute. 

WICHITA

The average monthly temperature measured at Wichita Eisenhower Airport was 75.6 degrees, which was 3.9 degrees warmer than
normal. It was the 10th warmest September since records began in 1888. Sixteen days reached or exceeded 90 degrees, which was well above the normal of 8 days. Rainfall-wise, 3.04 inches was measured at Eisenhower Airport, which was just 0.01 inches 
below normal. It tied for the 59th wettest September on record, and was the wettest since 2016. 

SALINA

The average monthly temperature measured at Salina Municipal Airport was 74.1 degrees, which was 4.0 degrees warmer than
normal. It was the 19th warmest September since records began in 1900. Thirteen days reached or exceeded 90 degrees, which was above the normal of about 8 days. Rainfall-wise, 4.07 inches was measured, which was 1.42 inches above normal. It was the 
33rd wettest September on record, and the wettest since 2019. 

CHANUTE

The average monthly temperature measured at Chanute Martin-Johnson Airport was 75.8 degrees, which was 4.7 degrees warmer
than normal. It was the 9th warmest September since records began in 1897. Sixteen days reached or exceeded 90 degrees, which was well above the normal of about 5 to 6 days, and tied for the 8th most 90-degree days on record. Rainfall-wise, 4.12 inches was measured, which was just 0.02 inches above normal. It was the 52nd wettest September on record.
