July 2026 will go down as one of the top 10 driest for much of South Central Kansas, with Wichita recording its 8th driest on record and Russell its 9th driest.  This comes right after one of the wettest June's on record for much of the region.

Above normal temperatures also combined with uncomfortably high dewpoints to produce some of the highest heat indices central and eastern Kansas have seen in a while. Toward the end of July, many sites saw dangerous heat indices in the 113 to 115 degrees range.
