Overview
|
Severe storms developed over north central Kansas during the early evening hour on Monday June 8th. As the evening hours continued, storms started to dive southeast into central and northeast Kansas. As they pushed southeast, they started to produce damaging straight-line winds. The Salina Airport measured a 113 mph wind gust which was the highest wind gust ever recorded at the Salina Airport. These extreme winds caused extensive tree and structure damage across the city, knocking out power to around 35,000 residents of Saline County. As the storms tracked southeast, a 98 mph gust was measured near Smolan and a 111 mph gust was recorded from an anemometer near Gypsum. The town of Lindsborg also experience extensive tree damage. |
