Risks of Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall in the Central U.S.; Fire Weather Concerns in Alaska and Southwest

An expansive storm system will bring widespread storms with a threat for flash flooding and severe weather to much of the central to eastern U.S. into early this week. MAY 15 2008 TORNADO OUTBREAK

 

Overview

One of the most widespread severe weather events across Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas in many years affected the area between 1 AM CDT and 9 AM CDT on Thursday, May 15, 2008.  Tornadoes and wind damage were reported in numerous locations, with the most significant damage across South-Central Louisiana around the Lafayette Metropolitan area.  A total of 10 tornadoes were confirmed across Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana, making this the biggest tornado outbreak across the region since October 16, 2006.
